Selma decided to be very public about her difficult health journey with MS and its impact on her mobility, whether that meant talking about it on a large media platform or even taking the stage with a cane to present at the 2022 Emmy Awards. Even her service dog has become a well-known aspect of her life. She decided it was important because MS is often not diagnosed for years, due to its symptoms which could be attributed to age or other disorders. Do you get a physical every year?

Selma initially shared that she had symptoms for at least five years before her official diagnosis, but thought she was just suffering from a pinched nerve. She now feels she could have been suffering from the incurable disease for 15 years before her diagnosis. Here are some of the symptoms of MS. Do you suffer from any of these symptoms (Note: these symptoms are not only associated with MS, but if you have a majority of these symptoms, you may want to consult a doctor)?

MS is a disease of the central nervous system, and believed to be an autoimmune condition, in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the myelin sheath that normally protects nerve fibers in the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerve. As the myelin sheath is gradually destroyed, the resulting scar tissue (sclerosis) disrupts the electrical impulses between the brain and other parts of the body. As part of MS Awareness Month, MS Awareness Week is held annually in the United States, this year being March 12–19, 2023. Do you know anyone (or you perhaps) who has been diagnosed with MS?
