Results: Alec Baldwin charged with involuntary manslaughter over fatal shooting on Rust film set

A live round killed Halyna Hutchins, 42, after a prop gun held by the 64-year-old star was discharged during rehearsals for the movie in October 2021. Assistant director David Halls handed Baldwin the gun and said that it did not contain live ammunition, but it discharged in the direction of Hutchins and director Joel Souza, who was injured. Five live rounds mixed in with dummy rounds were found on set following the shooting. It remains unknown how the live rounds ended up on the set. As an actor, Baldwin should've assumed the gun he was handling was loaded with live rounds and known that "the first rule of gun safety is never to point a gun at someone you don't intend on shooting," reads a statement of probable cause. He also neglected to undergo "required firearms training prior to the commencement of filming,". Baldwin and the Rust production company reached a civil settlement for an undisclosed amount with Hutchins's family in October and announced that production of the film would resume this year. After the criminal charges were announced, the film's lawyer confirmed Baldwin would remain in the lead role in the film. The film synopsis is: In 1880s Kansas, aging outlaw Harland Rust comes out of hiding to rescue his thirteen-year-old grandson Lucas, after he is sentenced to hang for an accidental murder.
