Results: Musicians and bands come and go and a very few are around long enough to make a lasting impact. This survey is about some successful entertainers from my hometown of Edinburgh Scotland who might even be known in North America.

Most TW members may have one or maybe two celebrities from their home town who became famous on the world's stage at a point in history. My home town of Edinburgh has been exceptionally successful at spawning talent. Most members will know that Sean Connery is from Edinburgh but he is not the only famous person from there. Even if you don't know the person(s) you may recognize their accomplishments. I might have to do more than one of these.

Perhaps the most famous entertainers from Edinburgh were the Bay City Rollers who sold over 300 million albums worldwide in the 1970s. Despite their international dominance during the 1970s and early 1980s, the Bay City Rollers career was marked by financial difficulties and mismanagement. Only their manager and the lawyers made money. Their best seller was Bye Bye Baby. Were you ever a fan?

It's not everyone who gets to write the national anthem of their country during their lifetime but one of the members of this duo did. Although it is considered the "unofficial" national anthem, it is the one preferred by most Scots who refuse to sing the official one due to its insulting lyrics. The song is Flower Of Scotland and was written by Roy Williamson of the folk group The Corries. If you are familiar with "God Save The King", can you understand why Scotland prefers something else?

Imagine a rock band from the USA that sang with the distinct accent of The Bronx. I can't think of one. Yet two identical twins from Edinburgh managed to become world famous by singing with their broad Scottish accents as a prominent feature. One of their songs may be familiar to you as The Proclaimers performed "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" from the movie soundtrack from Benny & Joon (1993) Do you like the song?

I liked this band before I found out they were from my home town so there is no nationalistic bias in my choice. They are called The Headboys. A Head Boy was a class monitor at a posh British school so these guys are not exactly blue collar. They aren't exactly world famous either but do you like their sound?

I was shocked to find that the Bay City Rollers had their hit song almost 50 years ago. This probably means that none of these songs will be known to you. I hope you enjoyed the music anyway. Do you sometimes remember something like it was yesterday only to find out it was a long time ago? Here is a bonus track to listen to while you mull this over. This one was also in a movie. If you know which one, please comment.
