This seems to be a trend in movies this year. Earlier this year, the film Yesterday, a film about a struggling singer-songwriter in an English seaside town whose dreams of fame are rapidly fading, despite the fierce devotion and support of his childhood best friend, Ellie. After a freak bus accident during a mysterious global blackout, Jack wakes up to discover that The Beatles have never existed. Performing songs by the greatest band in history to a world that has never heard them, Jack becomes on overnight sensation with a little help from his agent. The movie features many Beatles songs, of course. Did you see the movie, and did you like it?

The two movies are both very unique in the way they incorporate the music into their story line. Perhaps one of the most famous adaptations of a group's music is Mamma Mia!, which was based on the songs of Abba. Not only were the songs used as an inspiration for the musical (and subsequent movie), the songs actually helped move the plot along. Mamma Mia! was probably one of the most successful jukebox musicals, which is a stage or film musical that uses previously released popular songs as its musical score. Have you seen any of these jukebox musicals?
