Results: Blinded By The Light

In mid August, last year, during the time when blockbuster or children's movies seem to take over the theatre screens, one unlikely movie won over many people's hearts. "Blinded By The Light" was an unlikely hit -- set in 1987 U.K., a teenager from an Asian family learns to live his life, understand his family and find his own voice through the music of American rock star Bruce Springsteen. Did you see this movie, and did you like it?

Directed by Gurinder Chadha, who previously directed "Bend It Like Beckham" in 2002, the film is based on the true story of journalist Sarfraz Manzoor and his book Greetings From Bury Park (a spin on Springsteen's album title Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.), which was published in 2007 and recounts Manzoor's formative years and his discovery of Springsteen's music. Did you know this movie was based on a true story?

Although the movie does take some liberties with the true story, the basic premise is what's important. The music of Bruce Springsteen speaks directly to the main character in the film, who, although he is a Muslim Pakistani teen growing up in a working class town in the U.K., can relate to the songs as if they were written for him. Have you ever heard a song, and thought the song was speaking directly to you, as if the song had been written for you?

Being a Springsteen fan, I knew I would enjoy this movie, if only for the music. Have you ever gone to see a movie just because of the music in it?
