The peak years of his career (1941-57) span almost the entirety of Noir's Golden Era. Film Noir can often be identified by both the thematic and visual elements that tend to be a part of it. Visually, film noir is typically shot with stark lighting that results in areas of intense darkness and shadows. Thematically, film noir often involves crime, mystery, cynicism, betrayal, and antihero characters.
