Results: Little-known movies that everyone should see - Part 3 The Count of Monte Cristo

Are you familiar with the novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas?

This movie sticks to the general premise, but takes a lot of artistic liberties (for which I am grateful). I personally never cared much for the novel (which I was forced to read for a high school literature class), but I loved this movie. Have you ever seen it?

For those who don't know, the story, as described by Rotten Tomatoes: Dashing young sailor Edmond Dantes (Jim Caviezel) is a guileless and honest young man whose peaceful life and plans to marry the beautiful Mercedes (Dagmara Dominczyk) are abruptly shattered when his best friend Fernand (Guy Pearce), who wants Mercedes for himself, deceives him and has him imprisoned. While incarcerated, Dantes befriends a fellow prisoner, a former soldier who served under Napoleon Bonaparte, who was locked up because he refused to reveal the location of Treasure of Sparta. The old man teaches Dantes how to read, use logic and reason and how to fight. Before making his escape, Dantes is given the location of the treasure and after retrieving it, he vows to use his riches to repay his betrayers for the wrongs they had committed against him. Does this sound like a story that would interest you?

Dantes seeks to get revenge on those who betrayed him with the help of a pirate and a man who was about to be killed by the pirates when Dante shows up and spares him, leading him vow his allegiance and become Dantes' lifelong ally. Do you have friends whom you would consider devoted and lifelong allies?
