"Lions and tigers and bears, oh my!" is a quote from 1939's The Wizard of Oz. They are what Dorothy, Scarecrow and the Tin Woodsman fear about meeting when going through a dark forest. Wild animals are sometimes used as the main threat in movies (Jaws being one example). Here are four featuring the critters in question, plus a wild pig. (NOTE: All trailers contain intense scenes, and Cocaine Bear drops the F-bomb a few times, so be advised...)

The Ghost and the Darkness - a fictionalized account of a true tale, it concerns a pair of male lions who attacked workers in Tsavo, Kenya during the building of a railway in 1898. Val Kilmer stars as Colonel John Henry Patterson, with Michael Douglas as Charles Remington. Do you hunt as a sport or to provide food for yourself or family?

Life of Pi - based on a novel by Yann Martel, this 2012 film was directed by Ang Lee. Sixteen year old Piscine Patel finds himself in a lifeboat at sea along with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker after the ship carrying his family's zoo to Canada sinks during a storm. Of the 170 tiger shots in the movie, only 23 were real, the rest CGI. If you watch the trailer, at any moment did it seem fake to you?

Cocaine Bear - this is one I had to check out just based on the title. It's a 2023 comedy horror film, inspired by the true tale of a black bear that ingested several kilograms of lost cocaine. If you have a pet, has it ever seemed to get into an altered state due to something?

Razorback - based on Peter Brennan's novel, this 1984 film was directed by Russell Mulcahy. The story involves a gigantic wild boar terrorizing the Australian outback. Many critics compared the plot to Jaws, though praised the look, shot by Dean Semler. Wild critters out of the picture, Australia is a place I'd like to visit. Ever been there?
