If we do not speak out, we are accomplices, says Mónica González Mújica, laureate of the 2010 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize. Jailed and tortured during the dictatorship in Chile, she never relinquished her right to free speech. Denouncing injustice is what counts for her, beyond gender barriers.

"Network" was a ground breaking film. In the 1970s, Howard Beale, the aging UBS News Anchor, has lost his once strong ratings share and so the network fires him. Beale reacts in an unexpected way. We then see how this affects the fortunes of Beale, his coworkers, and the network. Winner of 20 Awards including 4 Oscars; 1977 Winner Oscar, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Peter Finch, his award was Posthumous, as he passed away before the Awards. I'll never forget his grieving widow accepting the Award on his behalf. The scene I selected is one I shall never forget it is as true now as it was then! 1977 Oscar Winner Best Actress in a Leading Role, Faye Dunaway; 1977 Oscar Winner Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen, Paddy Chayefsky and 1977 Oscar Winner Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Beatrice Straight. Mister Roberts is aboard a US cargo ship, working in the Pacific during the Second World War. He'd do anything to leave the quiet of the ship to join in the "action". Trouble is, the captain of the ship, is a bit of a tyrant, and isn't willing to sign Roberts' transfer requests.. Roberts and the crew are in constant battle, with the Captain, over the smallest of details. The tension between the Captain and Mr. Roberts comes to a peak when they are kicked out of a port because the crew went berserk on shore leave. The Captain cherishes a plant he received as an award for the excellent record of the ship's performance in delivering supplies. Mr. Roberts snaps one night as he listens to a radio broadcast. It is based on a true story, written by Thomas Heggen a young Naval Officer sharing his experiences aboard the USS Virgo in the South Pacific during WWII. It became a Hit Broadway Play, in which Henry Fonda performed for many years. Winner of 4 Awards including the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor Jack Lemmon. Have you .......?

The Bounty departs Portsmouth, England in 1787 on a mission to sail to Tahiti and load breadfruit for transport to the West Indies. Captain Bligh will do anything to get there as fast as possible, using any means to maintain strict discipline. When they arrive at Tahiti, it's like a paradise for the crew, quite a relief from the living hell aboard ship. On the way back to England, Captain Bligh refuses to allow the men enough drinking water and abuses the crew so badly that first officer Fletcher Christian snaps and leads a mutiny seizing command from the cruel Captain Bligh. This is based on a true story. Have you...............?

Jane Fonda has always stood up for her beliefs. An outspoken opponent of the Vietnam War. Fonda was also active in the women's rights movement, and in 2005 she cofounded the Women's Media Center. She also sought to raise awareness about climate change. She has continued protesting against prejudice, unfairness, injustice and oligarchy. She has been arrested many times, most recently in 2019, at the age of 81, for demanding action on Climate Change. She has spent some time in jail because of her protests. She used the opportunity of her Life Achievement Award to inspire others to protest as well. Have you seen any films with Jane Fonda?

Like a lot of her family before her, Norma Rae works at the local textile mill, where the pay is hardly commensurate with the long hours and lousy working conditions. But after hearing a rousing speech by labor activist Reuben, Norma is inspired to rally her fellow workers behind the cause of unionism. She and her co-workers' health are compromised due to poor working conditions in the mill. Her decision rankles her family, especially her fiancé, Sonny, and provokes no shortage of contempt from her employers. The film is based on the true story of Crystal Lee Sutton – which was told in the 1975 book Crystal Lee, a Woman of Inheritance by reporter Henry P. Leifermann of The New York Times.
