Director Ava DuVernay's "Selma" tells the story of how the revered leader and visionary Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and his brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that forever altered history. 58 Awards including the 2015 Winner Oscar Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song, "Glory" by John Legend. In small-town Alabama in 1932, Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck) is a lawyer and a widower. He has two young children, Jem and Scout. Atticus Finch is currently defending Tom Robinson, a Black man accused of raping a white woman. After threats galore, an unshaken Peck takes to the courtroom jungle in, without a doubt, one of the top 5 court scenes in motion picture history. Brock Peters lends the film its best moments as the accused "negro" on trial. This man has a face chiseled with suffering and deep, deep sorrow. We know Atticus is a good man, a decent human being with a soul. He sees this in his client as well, and in a closing argument that must have roused the civil rights movement, implores the jury to Vote for Justice. Meanwhile, Jem and Scout are intrigued by their neighbors, the Radleys, in particular the mysterious, seldom-seen Boo Radley. It ends with a tragic death, an unlikely hero, and the bringing together of a family. Winner of 14 Awards including 3 Oscars, Best Actor Gregory Peck, Best Screenplay adaptation from a Novel, and Best Art Direction. Have you..?

Dec. 20, 1955 - The Montgomery bus boycott, a pivotal moment in the American Civil Rights Movement, was a protest against racial segregation on public transportation in Montgomery, Alabama. It began in December 1955 after Rosa Parks, an African American seamstress and NAACP member, refused to give up her seat to a white passenger, leading to her arrest. The boycott, lasting 381 days, saw Montgomery's African American residents largely refuse to ride the city's buses, instead carpooling, walking, or using Black-owned taxis. This mass non-violent resistance ultimately led to the U.S. Supreme Court declaring segregation on public buses unconstitutional in 1956. In "The Long Walk Home" Odessa works as a maid for the Thompsons, and as well as she is treated, she feels it is her duty to walk to work, even if it means she is exhausted, and gets to work late. 1992 Winner Image Award Outstanding Lead Actress in a Motion Picture The Long Walk Home Whoopi Goldberg.
