The daughter of a bricklayer, Jackson quit school at age 16 to join an amateur theatre group and soon won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. After graduating she began working in repertory theatres as an actress and stage manager. She was discovered by Peter Brook for his Theatre of Cruelty revue, in which her career was established. In 1964 she had a stunning personal triumph when she portrayed Charlotte Corday in the West End production of The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat…, better known as Marat/Sade. She reprised the role in the New York production of Marat/Sade in 1965, which marked her Broadway debut, and in the film version (1967).

England, 1805. After two years at sea, Vice Admiral Lord Nelson, the naval hero, is back. With his star in its zenith he could demand and get any post but for now he just wants to be with the woman he loves. Controversially, that woman is not Lady Nelson but his mistress, Lady Hamilton. A film that largely explores the famous Lord Nelson's private life. In particular his private life in the months leading up to the Battle of Trafalgar. It's a complex business, which adds a bit of spice to proceedings. Superbly photographed film. Glenda Jackson gives a fine performance as Lady Hamilton. Have you seen....?

American Steve Blackburn, in the insurance business, is married with two kids. Vickie Allessio, a self described design "stealer" for a knockoff fashion house, is a recent divorcée with two kids. Steve and Vickie are running into each other more and more in their day to day lives in London before even knowing who the other is, which suits them both fine, as when they do finally officially meet, Steve is up front that he wants to have an affair with her, Steve who has had affairs in the past whenever his wife Gloria, who is from old money, isn't around which is currently the case as she is in the States visiting her parents. Vickie, in turn, is up front that she is amenable to a no-strings affair with him under specific circumstances, namely that it be at least a classy short term affair, meaning no cheap motels, and preferably a weekend away somewhere warm. Able to arrange a business trip to Málaga, Spain, for a week, Steve convinces Vickie to change their agreed weekend to a week and spend it in the nearby resort of Marbella. However, one issue after another has the potential to derail the Marbella vacation and thus their affair, unless they can overcome all of the obstacles. If they can, they will have to decide if there is any sort of future for them in their real lives. Winner of 11 Awards including the 1974 Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Glenda Jackson. Henrik Ibsen's enduring drama about a Nordic femme fatale, a neurotic, controlling, strong-willed woman who is nonetheless alluring to the males in her town. She is a solitary woman in a society held together by kinship and class. If she had more brains she would have thought her way out of it. If she had more courage she would have bolted long ago with Løvborg, the only true creative force in the vicinity; whose manuscript she burns in the stove as if she were destroying his most cherished items.. The 1976 Winner for Best Foreign Actress, Glenda Jackson, David Di Dinatello Awards. Have you seen...?

A great, small, simple comedy that works because of the terrific cast: Glenda Jackson, Walter Matthau, Art Carney and Richard Benjamin. Matthau meets Jackson because she's made to wear a ridiculous head bandage provided by Carney and Matthau removes it and performs surgery on her. Carney becomes angry/upset over this and blackmails Matthau into supporting him for Chief Resident even though Carney's obviously a "crack pot". Jackson and Matthau become lovers but she eventually becomes angry with him for not standing up to Carney. This an almost perfect film comedy, the characters, and storyline all seem to flow naturally with life's events. Matthau and Jackson are superb together. This film inspired a successful TV series. This Cold War Comedy is quirky, funny, intelligent, interesting, with a well paced, and well-developed in-depth story line. Realistic characters believably conveyed by the actors, matched with great dialogue. All the players carry their weight believably, operating, as one would expect, with intelligence and humor. (Ned Beatty's) Myerson is very obnoxious, providing a lot of the comedy. Every aspect of the movie compliments the story line; it is shot on location in the natural settings of Europe and the U.S., which makes it visually attractive. Jackson and Matthau are brilliant foils for each other, they are well matched by intelligence and wit, therefore coming off as a believable pair, as players of equal stature. Kendig keeps one step ahead of the CIA with the assistance of Glenda Jackson, which brings it to a clever conclusion. Have you seen "Hopscotch"?
