Ah yes, those dumb ditties we sang in our early days of youth and innocence, perhaps while playing or at school when the teachers weren't around. With the Christmas season and the song Jingle Bells playing, my twisted mind started remembering a few of these...

Jingle Bells, Batman Smells - James Lord Pierpont published Jingle Bells in the 1850's. Where the Batman lyrics originated (Robin laid an egg, etc.), no idea but dates to the 60's. In 2005, Barbara Park put out Jingle Bells, Batman Smells as part of her Junie B Jones series. All that aside, are you a Batman fan?

K-I-S-S-I-N-G - this one was used to embarrass by suggesting a couple spent time kissing in a tree and soon to get married / have kids. Only worked when young, by early teens, kissing didn't seem such a bad idea to some. Ever actually kiss while in a tree?

Mary's Steamboat - "Mary had a steamboat, the steamboat had a bell. When Mary went to Heaven, the steamboat went to hell-o operator..." Whole point of this is about to say a 'dirty' word (though not that dirty) and saying something else. Many variations on this, but one I recall. Ever own some sort of boat?
Mary's Steamboat -
Yes- though might have been a rowboat, not a personal yacht.

Burning of the School - The Battle Hymn of the Republic (aka Glory, Glory Hallelujah, or Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory) was written by Julia Ward Howe during the US Civil War. This uses lyrics about burning the school down, breaking rules, torturing / killing teachers. If a student were caught singing this today do you think they'd find themselves expelled, maybe even in trouble with the police?
