Some answering the previous question negatively MAY think again if they didn't realize that Schickle was responsible for the parodies of classical/art music attributed to P.D.Q. Bach, the fictitious, musically...curious?...the 21st among the 20 of of Baroque era musical titan Johann Sebastian Bach's children. If you are at all familiar with P.D.Q. Bach, were you aware that the character is Schickele's creation?

Though Schickele is likely best known for his recordings under the P.D.Q. Bach character or brand--four of which won the Grammy Award for best comedy album of the years 1990 to '93--he was a writer of serious music outside a comedic context as well. Work under his own name beyond pieces primarily meant for recital or concert halls includes orchestral arrangements for at least one album by folk singer Joan Baez and the soundtrack to 1971 science fiction movie Silent Running (also including Baez's singing). Can you think of any other 20th-21st serious music composers whose work you enjoy outside of their main field of notoriety?
Yes (and I may name one or more in a comment)

Schickele's musical talent carried through to some of his family, as his daughter, Karla, and son, Ben, comprised two-thirds of the late 1990's New York City indie rock band Beekeeper; the group's music could be heard occasionally on the fun, eclectic public radio show, Schickele Mix. Do you like any musicians whose parent(s) is/are also musically renowned, but in a wholly different style than their kid(s)?

I've had to add Schickle to the list of musicians I've seen in person who've died, as I saw him some years ago conducting and singing to both P.D.Q. Bach pieces and work credited to his own name at a concert hall in my state's capital. Have you ever seen a composer conduct an orchestra playing his or her own work?
