Music
I always say some of my favourite songs were written in the first half of the 20th century. This is music from my parents' era that I grew up hearing, and the melodies and lyrics seem to evoke a sense of nostalgia. Maybe I'm an old soul. Thanks, Dad.

Over The Rainbow (Harold Arlen/E. Yip Harburg). This song was written in 1938 for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, and sung by Judy Garland in her starring role as Dorothy Gale. 16 year old Judy Garland recorded the song on October 7, 1938 on the MGM soundstage. It won the 1939 Academy Award for Best Original Song. The American Film Institute ranked it number 1 in their 100 Greatest Songs in Film History. This song was almost not included in the film. It was cut during previews of The Wizard of Oz in June 1939 because Louis B. Mayer, the studio chief and the directors felt it was too long and too slow and that no one would want to hear a girl sing a slow ballad in a farm yard. Do you know this song?
