Results: This survey is about rain. Not the kind that caused such devastation and loss of life in Texas but rather the kind of rain people sing about.

This week our top news story here in Canada has been about the Texas Floods. We heard about what happened but soon after the focus turned to who was to blame for what happened. I hate when that happens. Rain is not always so unwelcome and often it finds its way into popular songs. Here are some songs about rain that fell over several decades. You might like some of them.

I was watching a video of Stevie Ray Vaughan, live at the El Mocambo in Toronto on July 20, 1983. The legendary late guitarist was born October 3, 1954, in Dallas, Texas and one of the songs from the Toronto gig was Texas Flood (also the title of the album). This is the SRV song that inspired this survey. Do you like the song (it kicks in after a 2 minute intro)?

I sometimes would sing the first few lines from this next one when we had a downpour in Scotland (a frequent event). I never knew who sang it but I imagined it being sung by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald. I was surprised to see the photograph and name Jane Morgan from 1958. Do you remember the song "The Day That The Rains Came Down."?

In a somewhat contrived contribution to 1960s Flower Power, the UK band The Move released the song "Flowers In The Rain". The song was released as the lead single to the band's debut self-titled studio album, Move, in August, 1967, featuring the B-side "(Here We Go Round) the Lemon Tree." The Move eventually morphed into the more successful ELO (Electric Light Orchestra). Do you like "Flowers in The Rain"?
