Hamlet is a tragedy by William Shakespeare published somewhere between 1599 and 1601. It's his longest play, and while a powerful classic, one many aren't a fan of, either from studying in school, viewing a performance or movie, or simply not into Shakespeare. Regardless, the play has influenced other works perhaps a bit more amusing, below a few...

The story - but first, for those not familiar, the tale follows Hamlet, young prince of Denmark. After learning his father was murdered by his uncle Claudius to seize the throne and marry his mother Gertrude, Hamlet's rather indecisive about what to do about it, using various tactics instead of directly calling his uncle out. Ever read the play, see it performed live, watch a filmed version?

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern & Dead - the guys in question are a pair of minor characters in Hamlet. In 1966 Tom Stoppard wrote the play, later made into a 1990 film. The idea is the duo witnessing matters behind the scenes at times, trying to figure out what is going on which can get goofy. Ever feel there was something larger going on you couldn't quite grasp?
Yes - certainly had that "there's something odd going on here" feeling.

No - I tend to have a pretty good idea what's up at all times, always in the loop.

The Lion King - Evil uncle Scar kills rightful king Mufasa, son Simba runs off, but later grows to do something about it. Sound a bit familiar? This 1994 animated Disney film was later adapted as a stage musical and live film (if one considers CGI animals live). The premise is certainly similar to Hamlet with a happy ending. That said, do you think Hamlet could have succeeded winning back the throne with a more direct approach?

Yes - He's got buds to back him up, a girlfriend, and even her father possibly...get a pair, dude.

No - Even with back-up, he's doomed to fail. Claudius has forces at his command, may have started an all out war, and it IS a tragedy, right?

Hamlet 2- this goofy 2008 film concerns a failed alcoholic actor working as a high school drama teacher in Arizona. He comes up with a sequel to Hamlet using time travel, and Jesus as a character. Needless to say, this does not bode well. Any stories you felt needed a sequel, but never had one? Let us know in replies.
Yes - there is at least one or two I can think of, might mention in replies.

The Lion King 1 1/2 - this 2004 direct to video sequel to The Lion King shares elements in common with Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, following Timon and Pumbaa as we learn more of their backstories and witness matters play out from their point of view. Kid's film or not, fun stuff. Do you have that one friend who's sort of your 'partner in crime'?
Yes - don't know about the 'crime' bit, but certainly one or more friends I'm in cahoots with getting up to stuff at times.

No - may have friends, but we are all pretty straight-laced, won't see us hitching up with lions.
