Rather than focusing on a particular musical in my next installment of this running series, going to look into some that are the last tale one might think a stage musical would be made from.

Catch Me If You Can - is the true tale of Frank Abagnale Jr. based on his book and later 2002 film adaptation. The story has him cashing 2 million worth of bad checks impersonating a Pan Am pilot, doctor, and lawyer. With music and lyrics by Marc Shaiman, this became a stage musical in 2011 and a heck of a lot of fun with Abagnale breaking the fourth wall to speak to the audience at times. Do you find this fun or interesting when a character does this in in a show or movie?

Little Shop of Horrors - a 1960 horror comedy directed by Roger Corman, it's notable for being an early film Jack Nicholson was in. The story involves a florist shop employee tending a plant he dubs Audrey 2 after a gal he favors. Things get strange from there as the plant is not what it seems. It was made into a stage musical in 1982. The video is the original ending for a 1986 film adaptation that was changed due to test audiences not liking the plant winning out. Ever own a Venus fly trap plant?

Avenue Q- okay, this one is original but does seem to parody Sesame Street with it's blend of live actors and puppets. It won Best Musical, Book, and Score at the 2004 Tony Awards. Delves into themes of racism, homosexuality and porn among other matters in a funny way. Ever watch Sesame Street or a show blending humans and puppets when young?
