Glitter dates back to prehistoric times, when it was made from natural sources like malachite, mica, and insects. Glitter as we think of it today was created by a German immigrant in America on a farm in New Jersey in 1934. He invented machines to cut scrap plastic into very small pieces he called, "Slivers".
