Results: Function-Free Fashion

A friend of mine recently spoke in conversation of how his mother, who's in her mid-90's, wears glasses not because they aid her eyesight but because she believes she looks better wearing them than when she doesn't. I've never knowingly seen her, so I can't say whether I think the spectacles she sports become her or not. But do you regularly wear anything that could be mistaken for an aid to help you do something better but you only wear because you like its look on you?

I own two wooden walking canes given to me by friends who no longer needed or wanted them. I once occasionally walked about with one or the other cane as a fashion statement. But, since having been both carjacked and strongarm robbed in the past three years, I figured I might start walking with a cane with the added rationale of being able to use it as a potential weapon. But were I to walk with a cane again, would that seem pretentious if I didn't really need a cane to get about?

This survey m a y be mistitled because...maybe fashion, or presenting oneself visually to the world by what one wears &/or carries on one's person IS a legitimate function of clothing, eyewear, mobility devices, etc, apart from those things' primary purposes. Agreed?
