While social media filters can be a source of fun and self-expression, certain effects like the recently trending Bold Glamour, dramatically distort facial features and can reinforce unrealistic and harmful beauty standards – particularly for women and girls. This filter, being used on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram uses artificial intelligence to as*ess your face and then completely remold it so that you can look on TikTok like you've gotten a cosmetic makeover along with some plastic surgery. Have you heard or used this filter?

Taking a stand, beauty giant Dove is calling on its global community to turn its back on filters, inviting them to post a video turning their backs to the Bold Glamour filter and using the hashtags, #TurnYourBack #BoldGlamour #NoDigitalDistortion. They hope this campaign can prevent the damage these filters have on users (especially young women) and encourage them to let their beauty shine through. Have you participated or heard of this latest campaign by Dove?

48% of girls who distort their photos regularly have lower body esteem compared to 28% of girls who don't – Dove's latest campaign speaks to these girls on the platforms they use. Do you think it is possible for a campaign like this address this issue successfully?

According to the Dove Self-Esteem Project research, eight in 10 youth mental health specialists say social media is fuelling a mental health crisis, with nine in 10 believing exposure to harmful beauty content can lead to disordered eating or self harm among young people. Meanwhile, 50% of children surveyed said social media makes them and their peers feel anxious, with 8 in ten parents said the impact of social media on their child's mental health is worrying. In their recent campaign, Dove UK released a short film called Cost Of Beauty, that addresses this growing problem. If you watch this film, do you agree that this film should be viewed as a "wake-up call" to parents and their children, especially daughters?
