Results: This is a busy time of the year for most of us. It is also a time when bad food choices can temp us. This is about things we can eat on the run that are cheap, tasty, reasonably nutritious and easy to prepare. They are also slightly weird.

How do new food combinations get invented? Sweet and sour chicken for example? Who came up with that idea? Who was the first person to eat an oyster? A brave individual and perhaps alcohol was involved? Here are some combinations I have tried over the years that were motivated by budget restrains and laziness rather than foolhardiness. Feel free to share your own combinations and how they came about. Note that these dishes may not be attractive looking so I will not add visuals.

My dog and I like to share carrots to nibble around lunch time. She is also a nervous traveller in the car, especially if left alone in it. She ripped the seats recently causing $3000 damage. If we are having to leave her alone in the car for any length of time our vet has advised us to give her a mild sedation. Getting her to swallow the medication however is a challenge. I tried to press one of the pills into a carrot but she managed to eat the carrot and spit out the pill. I next tried to put the pill into some peanut butter. Same result. Next I wrapped the pill in a small bit of cheese slice - success. Now I had carrots and peanut butter on a dish and decided to combine the two for a snack - delicious! My wife was hospitalized 100kms away at the beginning of the Covid lock-down and I was not able to visit her for more than 3 months. She had planned meals ahead of time with all the ingredients being on hand assuming she would be home to cook the meals. Now it was just me and my dog and all the ingredients. We had lots of broccoli, a bottle of sriracha sauce and a jar of mayonnaise. I blended the sriracha and mayonnaise into a dip for the veg. I have enjoyed this often since then. Have you ever tried this and what do you think of its nutrition value?

This next one may be an acquired taste or one to avoid. I certainly enjoy it. My wife won't use a banana that is even slightly brown. I on the other hand think it it is still raw if it has no brown bits. I have eaten some nasty looking bananas over the years. I make 2 slices of toast, add peanut butter to one piece of toast and mash the banana to the other. Then I place a cheese slice between the two layers of toast and have a sandwich I call a bananarama. Have you or would you try one of these?
