In the U.S. Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and with the holiday season officially in high gear, you may be looking for some new holiday recipes to try. I make a carrot pudding that was a recipe passed down from my mom and my grandma, that my entire family (all 35 of them) love. I've given the recipe to many over the years with explicit instructions to follow it to the letter -- even with that one secret ingredient. Some have tried to substitute, and it just wasn't the same. Do you have any recipes that have a secret ingredient (one that is slightly unusual or unexpected)?

Ben & Jerry's has made a name for itself by adding strange ingredients into their products, some you would never think should be in ice cream -- but for some reason work. Do any of these ingredients sound good to you (in ice cream)?

This is my carrot pudding recipe. You will see that the secret ingredient is BABY FOOD CARROTS. I even tried making it with my own ground carrots, and it just did not taste the same. Cream 1/2 cup margarine or butter, with 3/4 cup brown sugar. Add in 1 tbs. vanilla and 1 tbs. lemon juice, 3 jars of baby food carrots, 2 beaten eggs. In separate bowl combine 1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp. baking soda with 1 cup flour (I actually use rice flour and it makes it a little more dense). Add the flour mixture to the carrot mixture and mix well. Grease an 8 X 8 inch baking pan well. Bake for 50 minutes at 325 degrees. Take out, cool slightly and cut into pieces (usually 16 total). You can eat right away or reheat later. When ready to eat, put back in 325 degrees oven for half hour or so (until hot). Do you think this is something you'll try?

Definitely!
