The history of tortilla chips can be traced back to the 1940s when Rebecca Webb Carranza fried misshapen tortillas into a popular snack. The chips were first sold at her family's tortilla factory in Los Angeles, California. Jose Bartolome Martinez, owner of the Tamalina Milling Company, also claims to have invented the chips. Tostadas, which are tortilla chips, were being sold to restaurants in southern California as early as the 1900s. Carranza's chips were initially called "tort chips" and sold for a dime a bag. Tortilla chips became a staple of Mexican, Tex-Mex, and Mexicali cuisine. Were you aware Tortilla Chips are now sold in over 100 countries around the world?

Frito-Lay noticed the popularity of tortilla chips and began mass-producing their own version, Doritos, in 1966. The concept for Doritos originated at Casa de Fritos, a restaurant in Disneyland that was owned by Frito-Lay. The restaurant used stale tortillas from a local vendor Alex Foods to create Doritos. Archibald Clark West, a marketing executive, is credited with developing Doritos. He made a deal with Alex Foods to produce the chips and they were test-marketed in Southern California. They reportedly sold out faster than Alex Foods could produce them. Did you know that Frito Lay makes 8 million bags of doritos a day; 2 billion bags a year. They offer 12 Flavors do you eat......?

Salsa is traced back to the times of the Aztecs, Incas, and Mayans. The native people created their own versions of salsa using tomatoes, chilies, and squash seeds, however "official discovery" to the rest of the world did not occur until after the Spaniards conquered Mexico in the 1500s. This mix of ingredients became popular throughout Spanish civilization, and in 1571, Alonso de Molina named the dish 'salsa.' A favorite appetizer and snack in the US, salsa is used at tailgates, in restaurants, and even at parties. Besides the fact that it is so tasty, salsa also has numerous health benefits, a large popularity, and is easy to make. Have you ever made your own Salsa?

Guacamole's history dates back to the Aztec Empire in the 14th century. The Aztecs called it "ahuacamolli," which means "avocado sauce" in Nahuatl. The Spanish conquistadors adapted the dish and renamed it "guacamole" in the 16th century. The Aztecs believed avocados had mystical powers. They mashed avocados with a mortar and pestle, then added chopped tomatoes, green chiles, and salt. They ate it with warm tortillas. The Spanish had trouble pronouncing "ahuacamolli," so they called it "guacamole" instead. They added their own ingredients, like onions, cilantro, and lime juice. Which of these versions have you tried?
In Mexico City, guacamole is often served with Chicharrones (pork rinds).

Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya invented Nachos in 1943 at the Victory Club Restaurant in Piedras Negras, Mexico. The dish is named after Anaya, who was the Maître d'hôtel at the time. The original recipe for Nachos includes tortilla chips, cheese, and pickled jalapeños. The city of Piedras Negras, Mexico, celebrates the invention of Nachos with an annual International Nacho Festival. Frank Liberto invented Ballpark Nachos in 1976. Liberto was the owner of Ricos Products and marketed the dish at Texas Rangers games at Arlington Stadium. Liberto created a gooey, orange cheese sauce that could be pumped onto tortilla chips. The sauce was made with leftover jalapeño juice and a little water. The sauce didn't need to be refrigerated and came in cans. The dish was quick and easy to make, which helped concession stands serve more customers. The dish became an immediate sensation at Arlington Stadium. The Dallas Cowboys also started serving Nachos after Liberto's innovation. Sports Announcer Howard Cosell mentioned Nachos on Monday Night Football, which helped make them popular. Ballpark Nachos are served at Sports Stadiums, Movie Theaters, and other places that have Snack & Food Concessions. Do you make your own Nachos at home?
