Melton Mowbray Pork Pie, a traditional British pork pie, known for its hand-raised, free-standing pastry, uncured pork filling, and distinctive bow-shaped appearance, and is protected by a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status, meaning it can only be made within a specific area around Melton Mowbray, England. My late husband spent 3 years in Northern England during WW2 as part of the RCAF. He loved the Melton Mowbray Pie and we would go to Marks and Spencers to buy them. They closed out of Canada many years ago. I recently found a butcher in Vernon that carries them in the frozen section. They are just as delicious and now my brother is a big fan. A delectable journey through time, to the explosive origins and harmonious flavors of bangers and mash! From the foggy streets of 18th century England to the trenches of World War I. The sausages have a high fat content and can explode during cooking unless you dock them with a sharp meat fork to let excess juices run free. I often poach mine in apple juice and then brown them. I make a delicious gravy and serve them with caramelized onions and mashed potatoes. Have you ever had Bangers & Mash?
