"Fast casual" restaurants that attempt to straddle the line between fast food and casual dining are becoming increasingly popular. Typically, they claim higher quality food and provide a larger amount of service than traditional fast food. For example, you may order at a counter and get your own drink, but the food will be carried to your table, someone might check on you, grab you additional condiments etc. Examples include Fazoli's, Chipotle, Panera Bread and Smashburger. Have you ever eaten at a fast casual restaurant? Yes

One area where fast casual restaurants differ from each other is tipping. Some encourage tips, others tell customers not to tip and others are quiet on the subject. Generally, workers at these establishments make an hourly wage comparable to fast food, maybe slightly higher on average. Do you think these workers should be tipped? Yes

One method of collecting tips is a jar by the counter, which is then split by all of the workers. How much would you typically tip per meal if there were a tip jar when you ordered? Just the change, probably under a dollar.

A thought experiment: Suppose you had the choice of two restaurants, side by side with identical food. One paid their employees typical wages, the other paid less. The first doesn't allow tips, the latter relies on tips to make up the gap in wages. The prices are 20% cheaper where they rely on tips, which one would you choose? The more expensive one, I would rather not tip.
