Many of us, as we age, attribute all those little aches and pains, fatigue and getting up to use the bathroom at night to just "getting older". While it is in part due to that, some of these changes should not be ignored. Your body may be trying to tell you something is wrong. And while some of these disorders are tough to diagnose, it's best not to ignore the signs that something may be wrong. Even if it turns out to be nothing, it is better to be safe than sorry. Heart disease, if left untreated, could become extremely serious. Yet, many people do not know the early warning signs. Have you experienced any of these early warning signs, that could lead to heart disease?

The risk for diabetes increases with age, making diabetes common in older adults. In fact, approximately 25% of adults over the age of 60 years have diabetes. Diabetes means that your blood glucose (sugar) level is too high. Your body's cells need glucose for energy. Yet, so often diabetes is not caught until it becomes a serious problem, because the early warning signs are not taken seriously, often attributed to normal aging. Have you experienced any of these early warning signs?

Thanks to one of the people on this site, I did some research into a disorder that very few know about until they are diagnosed with it. If you feel fatigue, depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, difficulty with your memory, insomnia, generalized muscle aches and pains, frequent urination (especially at night), and constipation, you may just chalk it up to aging. However, all these could be symptoms of Hyperparathyroidism, which if left untreated could lead to osteoporosis which can lead to fractures, kidney stones, decreased kidney function, heart disease, pancreatitis, increased acid secretion in the stomach and ulcers. Hyperparathyroidism is an excess of parathyroid hormone in the bloodstream due to overactivity of one or more of the body's four parathyroid glands. These glands are about the size of a grain of rice and are located in your neck. The parathyroid glands produce parathyroid hormone, which helps maintain an appropriate balance of calcium in the bloodstream and in tissues that depend on calcium for proper functioning. Again, this can be caught with blood work, but often is left until too late, due to thinking it is all part of the normal aging process. Have you ever been given a blood test to detect an excess of this hormone in your body?
