A friend, Dean Carmichael, volunteers as a sidewalk counselor at the Planed Parenthood on LaSalle St in Chicago, IL. While working one day, he was approached by a sobbing young lady (who will remain anonymous to protect her identity) whom was clutching a towel close to her chest. "Please help me!" she cried. "I don't know what to do!" Do you know anyone who has ever volunteered as a sidewalk counselor outside of a Planned Parenthood - or other abortion center?

Dean asked her what was wrong and, while sobbing, the young lady opened the towel that was in her arms. A deceased tiny baby boy was curled up inside. He was so tiny, Dean immediately recognized the child as being an unborn infant. When asked what happened, the 14-year-old explained that she had come to that Planned Parenthood, seeking an abortion, and she had been given three pills to take to end the pregnancy. She went home and took the medication as instructed. She said the pain was unbearable and she was doubled over for hours. There was so much bleeding and when everything was over, she said, she found her baby lying in the toilet. She panicked and wrapped him in the towel in her arms and cleaned him off as best as she could. Not knowing what to do, she called her friend who gave her a ride back to Planned Parenthood so they could do something to try to "save her baby." Do you find it sad that the young woman who wanted to abort her baby, desperate for help and in a panic, ultimately took the child back to the Planned Parenthood where she had gone seeking to end its life - in order to try to help the baby and revive it? Dean took a moment to speak with the young mother. She was distraught over her decision to abort – now that she was holding the result - and offered to help her have a proper burial for her son. With tears streaming down her face, the young teenager nodded in agreement and managed a subtle, "Thank you." Do you think it was kind of Mr. Carmichael to offer to give the young woman's deceased child a proper burial? Yes

Dean asked the young mother what she would want to name her son. She chose Henry – because that was the name of her paternal grandfather and Elijah – the name of her little brother, "Because he looks just like him," she said. Do you like the name Henry Elijah? Yes

When asked what would have happened if she had gone into Planned Parenthood with the baby, Dean explained that they would likely offer very little, if any, counseling to help her and would simply take the baby from her to dispose of it - or "donate" its parts to an organization in exchange for a payment. Do you think it was better that Henry was given a proper burial as arranged by Mr. Carmichael rather than being disposed of by Planned Parenthood staff - or his parts/organs removed and donated for various purposes? After a few phone calls, Dean was able to acquire a burial plot at a local cemetery where Henry Elijah could be laid to rest. An urn had been provided by the cemetery as a makeshift casket, and a few associates were called – as well as a couple more friends of the young mother (the 17 year-old father was unaware of the pregnancy and was not contacted) and after arranging for them to get to the cemetery, a service was held for the young boy who would unfortunately never get to experience life. It was a deeply emotional service and Dean said there wasn't a dry eye among those present when it was finished. Have you ever attended a funeral for a young child? Yes
