I was taking an opioid medication for a couple of years to relieve back pain. I also had moderate pain in many other parts of my body. Then, I read where taking opioids for a substantial period of time can even make body pain feel worse. I decided to test this theory because I wasn't getting much relief from my medication. Lo and behold, I have so much less pain than I did when taking it. I was also taking it for a toothache once. A nurse suggested I try Ibuprofen instead for that. She was right! The ibuprofen relieved the toothache pain much more than the opioid did. Have you ever heard the theory that taking an opioid for chronic pain can actually make you feel worse? Yes
