Bea Arthur, star of The Golden Girls shows just what a golden woman she was by donating money in her will to help establish The Bea Arthur Residence, an 18-bed shelter for homeless LGBT youth in New York. She left the money in her will with the intention of funding this project, as she has always been a huge supporter of LGBT causes. Do you remember her from the Golden Girls?

Bea Arthur passed away in 2009, and In her will, she left $300,000 to New York's Ali Forney Center, an organization supporting homeless Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender youths. The project hit some problems with zoning and building violations -- as the renovation project involved a long abandoned building, but the shelter is set to open in 2017. Previously Bea had put on a benefit for the foundation, and was a long time supporter of LGBT causes. Do you support LGBT causes?

"These kids at the Ali Forney Center are literally dumped by their families because of the fact that they are lesbian, gay or transgender," Bea said in an interview before her death. "This organization really is saving lives." Can you imagine parents kicking their gay or transgender children out of the house, simply because they came out to them?
Yes, and I would do the same
