Some people will always be remembered for bring pure evil -- committing horrible atrocities on fellow humans, seemingly showing no conscience or remorse, and being remembered for their evil, greed and total disregard for basic human rights. Martin Luther King famously quoted, " There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies." While not excusing these people, who will be forever remembered for their horrible acts, it's interesting to note that even they have a shred of good in them. How many of these were you familiar with?

Joseph Stalin committed genocide and had millions killed, just because their ideologies didn't match his own. But he did write beautiful poetry, and since poetry is the food for the soul, it is optimistic to assume that he had a sliver of goodness in his heart.

Saddam Hussein's human rights record is atrocious--he had committed genocide by killing thousands of innocents in the Kurdish province. But he was a very big champion of education. Primary school enrollment was 100%, and he had started a literacy program in Iraq, aimed at making the whole population literate.

News stories are full of juvenile offenders who have turned their life around and are now helping and making a difference in the lives of people who were just like them. How many of these successful redemption turnarounds are you familiar with?

He now works as a preacher, rehabilitates child soldiers, and visits his victims' families to ask forgiveness and offer compensation, all while raising his three adopted children. Due to the lack of a stable legal system in Liberia, Blahyi has never been charged for his crimes. But he claims that he would willingly go to prison and even be executed if that's what it takes to atone for his crimes.
