It seems rather strange that someone would ask etiquette expert Miss Manners who should empty the pants pockets that were to be laundered. But then again, I did spend a few irritating minutes picking the remnants of a Kleenex from the towels I was folding yesterday.

Gentle Reader tells Miss Manners that she has "laundered many coins, golf tees and rocks over the years." Is this this a problem in your home?

Gentle Reader is quick to tell Miss Manners that she doesn't want to nag. She also informs Miss Manners that she has no wish to "dig through pockets." Well, pulling fuzzy Tootsie Rolls, half eaten cookies, or roly poly bugs from pants pockets isn't likely to be on anyone's Top Ten Fun Things to Do List. But her position makes me doubt her laundry skills. I was taught to pull those front pockets inside out to eliminate pocket fuzz building up. Do you pull the pockets out before tossing them in the machine?

I come down hard on the position that pockets should be emptied by the wearer and re-checked by the laundry doer. But at our house, the issue of pocket emptying responsibility is purely academic. Everyone does their own laundry. Who does the laundry at your house?
