Results: Sheets

Gran was born in 1903, married in 1925. Her sheets were always white. Always 100% cotton (domestic). None were fitted sheets. So, six hospital corners per bed. And bless her heart, she ironed her bed linens. In an unairconditioned house. In Memphis. Have you ever ironed sheets?

Mom usually bought soft pastel or pretty, flower-sprigged sheets. Happily, fitted bottom sheets were standard in her linen closet. But like her own mother, she was a champ at hospital corners when she placed the top sheet on the bed. Do you make your beds using hospital corners?

Like Gran, my sheets are cotton. Like Mom, my bottom sheets are fitted. With color preferences leaning toward white or antique white. But confess to using- for a time- Power Ranger sheets on my kid's bunk bed. One side of which was against a wall. Am not sure which was more difficult to deal with- fitted bottom sheet or hospital cornered top sheet. Have you ever put the sheets on a bunk or trundle bed?

Like Meg March in "Little Women," I love the sight of a full and well organized linen closet. Unlike Meg, my vision and the reality aren't the same. It's those darn fitted sheets- so frustratingly difficult to fold neatly. Almost making me wonder if Gran's flat sheet world might not have some advantages. Can you fold a fitted sheet neatly?

Have to go get the sheets out of the dryer and remake the bed (really). It's nearly time for bed. I know this because the dog is glaring at me from her bed across the room. Which happily does not have sheets. Have you made your bed yet today?
