1. Recently I was eating from a bag of of sweet-and-salty licorice pieces imported from Holland (salty licorice is a favorite candy in the Netherlands) and purchased at he charity thrift store in my town benefitting my town's parochial schools affiliated with a church denomination favored by Dutch settlers who immigrated to my area in the 1800's. I don't attend a church associated with any of the congregations in my city aligned with the denomination that established those schools and the second-hand retailer benefitting them; but at that point, I felt a gratitude to those Europeans from so long ago who arrived in my state so long ago. Without them, I might not know of treat I enjoy so much. Are you familiar with the foreign population(s) that settled where you live in North America and may have provide you with food and./or anything else about their native culture you enjoy (if you live in an especially populous area, you may want t think in terms of neighborhood and not municipality) ?
