In the City of Kelowna in BC, Canada, with the tiny home villages and Stephen Village Building they have taken over 200 homeless people into housing, which has freed 200+ shelter spaces. As the program expands they hope to have all homeless people in some form of housing or shelter in the near future.
1. The tiny homes making a massive difference. In Kitchener-Waterloo, Ont., the problem of chronic homelessness is being addressed by a community of tiny homes. The housing project, called A Better Tent City, is funded by private donations. Are you aware of the small home villages to help homeless people transition program?

3. Kelowna's tiny home villages - In September 2025, two temporary tiny home villages, with 60 units each, are operational in Kelowna. STEP Place at 759 Crowley Avenue, opened in early 2024, while the Balsam Place community on Appaloosa Road welcomed residents starting July 2025. Both are temporary solutions managed by BC Housing and local operators, featuring private sleeping units and shared community spaces, with plans to provide support services and a pathway to permanent housing for residents. This has freed up more shelter spaces to get more people off the street and into shelter. Is there a Housing Program for homeless people in your region?

4. Stephen Village – Supportive Housing in Kelowna, this prefab modular building was built very quickly on city land. Stephen Village is located in Kelowna, BC. It offers homes with supports for people experiencing homelessness. The John Howard Society of the Okanagan & Kootenay is managing the housing. Staff are on site 24/7 providing support to the residents. There are a variety of support services in place to meet the needs of residents. These include outreach workers and wellness checks. All residents receive individualized case planning to further develop life and social skills. There is employment planning and managing the transition to independence and recovery. Programming space is available to help training and food preparation. Other services include referral to community services and support groups. Do you have support housing in your area?
