Anxiety over global warming is leading some to say they don't want children

Several studies show that younger generations of Americans are increasingly hesitant to have children due to climate change. They worry about raising kids in a world experiencing more frequent and severe extreme weather events caused by greenhouse gas emissions and they also concerned about the environmental impact their children may have on the planet. A 2024 Lancet study of 16–25-year-olds found most were “very” or “extremely” worried about climate change, and 52% said it made them hesitant to have children.
