Do we talk to strangers?

I mentioned in comments before that I became friends with a stranger I met in a local park, and now he is a missing person. I've gone back to that park a few times to look for him, and to ask other regulars to report if they see his bike. Have you ever helped search for a missing person?
Yes, in person.

One time last month I went to the park and it was almost completely empty, which is pretty normal. It's over 100 acres of fields, woods, and a stream, and sometimes I don't even run into another person while I'm walking around there. But this time, I saw a man sitting alone by the woods, next to his bicycle. Would you have approached him, knowing he was a cyclist, and your missing person rode a bike?
Yes, because as fellow bikers, they might know of each other. Or maybe he's noticed an abandoned bike somewhere.

So here I am, a 61 year old woman, walking up to the guy in this somewhat desolate area. I explain that I'm looking for any signs of my friend, and show him the photo from the police report. He asks how long the guy's been missing, nods slowly, then says he wouldn't have seen anything recently, because he just got out of jail. What now?
Run!

May as well stay and talk at that point, if he wants to attack there's not much you can do.

I stayed and talked, learned he had a 25 year history of run-ins with the law, found out he did see someone recently resembling my friend possibly drunk or having a medical issue, who fell off his bike and bystanders helped him. And I learned the staff at a local convenience store has been giving him sandwiches that expire the next day sometimes when they close. Now what do you do?
I'd have excused myself way before the conversation got that deep.
