Lots of industries have seen mass layoffs in the past couple of years (and the trend continues!). And the people let go aren't always in the "slowest of the heard" category. Entire departments closed, sometimes letting go of people who practically built the businesses they're letting them go! With our identities tied to our work, this feels like betrayal and a massive personal hit. But in some cases, it is exactly what folks needed to get moving and building the empires of the future ("a kick in the butt, a step forward").
1. I've noticed a lot of really smart people opening businesses in the fields where they were working in, just because they were let go and it was too hard for them to get jobs. Have you noticed this too?

2. After getting laid off, quite a few people switched industries and focused on doing what they really loved. Some of them managing to get an income around their passion (didn't ask if that replaces their income - that part is not the point... yet). Folks in IT or sales or retail moving into cooking, crafts, plumbing and electrician ventures (or others). Do you know anyone doing this?

3. Last but not least, and especially popular with IT folks who were stuck behind computer screens for far too long, people moved to the countryside, building their own farms or farming communities. Lowering their monthly costs and feeling better about being out in nature for a change. Do you know anyone doing this?

4. I don't know the future, but for the first time in a long time, seeing friends taking initiative and driving their own paths made me think it might actually be ok in the long run. How do you feel about the future?
