Waitress gives you your bill. You put your card with the bill inside the bill holder/booklet and hand it back to your waitress. She's gone for 15 minutes and you see her call someone else to the register and wonder what the problem is. It is only your table and one other family in the restaurant. What could be going on?

The waitress comes to your table and has the bill holder/booklet open with a bunch of receipts on it and says "Ok, here's what happened, I rang up someone else's order with your card. Realized it and voided it. When I rang up your order, it was denied probably because you had enough for your table, but not someone else's and yours.". So, what happened was true and my response to her was "Ok, I understand. So, you now need another card. Here you go.". Thank goodness I brought my other card! Do you think I was too nice? Absolutely!

I do not have any credit cards, only PayPal debit and a US Bank debit. I only spend what I have available. I now have to wait several days for the amount of the other party's bill to be placed back into my account. This means that I might be late on a bill I have due. If it was a credit card with an ample available balance it wouldn't matter as much, but because it is a debit card I am in the hole now and hope that money comes in time to pay my bill that is due. I'm only $12 short if the money doesn't get put back into my account in time. What would you do? Pray it comes in time

When she came back with my receipt she handed me a $5 Gift certificate to use on my next visit. I think she felt bad about what happened and because I didn't raise a stink she wanted to show she was genuinely sorry. What do you think? I think you are right.
