Results: Nature's Perfect Little Pot

The potter wasp, also known as the mason wasp builds a nest that looks just like a miniature clay hand thrown pot, have you ever seen one?

The female builds the nest using muddy soil, once the nest is built she will find tiny caterpillas which she stings with enough venom to paralize them but not to kill them, she will deposit them into the next before she lays her eggs. Did you know these wasps are good for the garden as they keep the caterpilla population down?

The sex of the future wasp is determined by how many caterpilla's are placed inside the nest, more than five would result in a female, fewer than five will produce a male. Do you find this fascinating?
