Signing up to be an organ donor is a noble and generous act. However, those of us who are older or have certain medical conditions know that, realistically, nobody is going to want our body for spare parts. Donating a body to a medical school to train future doctors is an alternative for many who can't be organ donors but still want to help others once they've shuffled off this mortal coil. The young and healthy may also consider it in case they pass under conditions that do not allow organ harvesting.

Besides helping others, donating one's body also solves the problem of disposal. When finished, the medical school will cremate the remains. The ashes are scattered or returned to the family, depending on the school and the wishes of the donor. Did you know this?
