There is an ongoing debate in our home about whether or not to buy a riding lawn mower. We have a little over a half an acre and I would like to buy a small riding mower. But, my husband thinks it is too much trouble. He is mostly concerned about transporting it, if it breaks down.

You can get attachments to tow the riding lawn mower itself, without a trailer.
The things that go wrong with it are usually pretty easy to fix and you can probably teach yourself how to fix it.
