I am presently doing my Master's in Health Psychology, and naturally am surrounded by others in the same program. All of us seem to experience the same thing -- our friends and family think that since we are in the field, it is acceptable for them to ask us for advice. Advice that they would perhaps have to pay for otherwise. Now, not only are we technically not qualified to counsel them, we shouldn't be -- personal and professional boundaries. So, we all do one thing -- listen. If you are a trained professional in any field, do you ever have friends or family coming to you for your professional advice or help?

Just like they say doctors should not treat their family, sometimes an objective opinion is necessary. If you are in the health care profession, do you advise your friends and family, or do you tell them to seek an objective professional opinion? I advise/treat them

What is your opinion of Tellwut people who ask very personal advice on this site, or use it like a therapist's couch (you know what I mean)? If it helps them to air their problems, great
