Love & Relationships
Somewhere sometime in my checkered management career I did a study course on how to give effective feedback and how this is a means to improve productivity and morale. The TW forum is a place where this can be applied so I thought I would share some of the concepts I adopted under the category "Love and Relationships."

We all make mistakes from time to time. We also do work that has room for improvement. We also have people around us who are very quick to point out our mistakes and sub par performance. What is your personal attitude to making mistakes or not giving a task 100%?
When I make a mistake, I'm usually the first person to know it.

Now that we (hopefully) know that doing something perfectly first time or every time are unrealistic goals, it may make more sense to take the task and subdivide it into smaller ones and try to do each small step perfectly. Some steps may be new to us or need skills we have not yet developed. Baby steps in other words. Imagine if a baby tried to walk for the first time and failed and the parent yelled at the baby and criticized its efforts. Instead we applaud every move, our tone of voice and choice of words are encouraging as is our facial expression. Yet as adults we tend to criticize more than encourage. Which of the following would you rather receive?
Criticism from someone who doesn't know what they are talking about.

Criticism tends to focus on the individual whereas feedback tends to focus on the job performance. I have never baked a cake before so, if I did and it didn't turn out very well, which of the following comments would encourage me to make another one?
