When my son was about 12, he developed an ear infection. As per the terms of my divorce, I had no medical say so to do anything. My ex refused to take my son to the doctor, rather he told my son to man up, take some Advil and shut up. My son cried and begged his dad to take him to the doctor, until 3 weeks later when his ear began to bleed I threatened to call the authorities if something wasn't done. It was only then that my ex took my son to the doctor and he had a full blown infection, requiring antibiotics, ear drops, and pain medication. What do you think about my ex's behavior?

My ex and his family pride themselves on not going to doctor, thus proving their strength (or something) by toughing it out. Have you ever heard of this before?
