On June 18, 2020, during the first Covid lockdown , a Caledon, Ontario mother and her three young daughters, ages 1, 3 and 6, were out driving to get ice cream, on a beautiful summery day. Minutes after they left their home, their SUV was hit by a speeding car and four lives were taken in an instant. The police were pursuing the driver of an Infinity when it struck the SUV, which ran a red light, and was travelling at a speed of 152 km/hr (95 miles an hour) at the time of the crash. The driver was a then 19 year old, driving with a suspended driver's license, under the influence of THC and with over 15 driving infractions within the two years he had been a driver. The crash destroyed their husband and father, who had his entire family wiped out by this completely thoughtless and selfish young man. Even though he received a rather light sentence, given his circumstances (17 years, time served) he is now appealing for a lighter sentencing due to the sentence being "unfit and unduly harsh" and the "five nanograms of THC per millilitre of blood within two hours of driving is arbitrary and overbroad because it doesn't correlate to impairment". Do you think that in this case, the court should even consider his appeal?

Given all that the father and husband of this young family has endured, it doesn't come as much of a surprise that he has said his faith in God, actually in any sense of the word, is completely shattered. He can not fathom a God that would allow this to happen to his family, not only destroying him, but his entire family, and the close-knit community (of which I am a member) he lives in. The memorial for his wife and children was held in a park, because he felt to have it in the church they attended was absolutely out of the question. During the eulogy, which had everyone in tears, he spoke about his faith ending the minute that car took his heart away. Do you think sometimes, in times of unimaginable tragedy, it is hard to believe there is a God?

In a two year memorial service held a few weeks ago, for the family, this song was played. Benson Boone wrote this song about the death of his grandmother, but the lyrics seem to resonate with anyone who is dealing with loss. He wrote this song so others could relate to someone that they have lost, and know that when you lose someone a part of them always stays behind with you. But in the song it does say "it's like I buried my faith with you", "I'm screaming at a God, I don't know if I believe in 'Cause I don't know what else I can do" and "here I am alone between the heavens and the embers". Have you ever lost your faith because of something you have gone through?
