When someone loads up the family car to go on a vacation road trip to explore our large country the gas, food, motels and everything else is becoming cost prohibitive. So we don't go. If we want to fly to our destination we are taken to task by climate activists as well as having the above costs. So we don't go. A so called stay-cation is hardly a proper substitute for getting out there to see the world around us. There are consequences to this change in behaviour.

A stay- cation to me is a vacation (about 10% of my vacations) in my home state/province where I go to parts of it I have never been before or revisit places I enjoyed on previous visits. It is just as enjoyable as going to another province/state and just as educational for the kids. The stay-cation was one part convenience and one part economics. If you have a stay-cation these days, what would it be like?

When I was raising my kids, at least 50% of my vacations were outside my state/province but still within in my country. As a result both us parents and our children got to see and experience what the rest of our country was like. There were several benefits to this type of vacation that the change away from this type of vacation will lose. Here are some of them. Which are worth keeping or returning to?

Spending money on vacations creates jobs for people in the industries that rely on tourism who then pay taxes, start businesses, keep existing businesses open and boost the economy. The more people are employed the less we pay in taxes to fund benefits for the unemployed.
