Results: This survey is about friendly cities. I have lived in or visited many cities. Some were friendly and some were not. Friendliness depends on the people who live there. As a result, no city should ever be unfriendly. And yet?

In a recent survey I saw that my city (in Scotland) was listed as one of the top 10 friendliest cities in the world. I felt proud about that because it is also one of the world top tourist destinations. First impressions are important and I would always hope my city would give a good one. Is your city friendly? Let's see if it made the list.

Before I begin with the friendly cities, here are some cities I found to be unfriendly. Maybe I just went there on a bad day and it is usually much better. Please comment if you agree or disagree. Which of these next 4 cities do you think are unfriendly?

Washington DC. It didn't help that someone was shot to death in the burger joint across from my hotel.

Paris France. We tried to speak French and they were even more rude because of it. They also seemed proud of it. We expected they would be like that and they didn't disappoint us.

#7 Victoria, BC Canada. You don't get gardens as lush as this one without lots of rain. Victoria has no shortage of it. It rained all day every day when I was last there. But at least the people were friendly in the places where I sought shelter from the elements.

#4 Is Dublin Ireland. No surprises here. I have been to Ireland several times but never made it as far as Dublin. The rest of the country was very friendly so I see no reason to think Dublin would let the side down.
