Some people choose vacations for the thrill of danger - theme parks, bungee jumping or sky diving to name a few. Sometimes merely visiting the location exposes you to danger from natural phenomena - mountain climbing, wildlife parks, and some of the places listed in this survey. Here are some places that it is recommended NOT to visit. I have been to one of them and fully agree with its entry on the list.

Here are the first three places you probably shouldn't have on your bucket list. Which of them do you agree are places to avoid?
Yellowstone National Park. It is home to wild animals like bears, bison, and wolves that can be dangerous if approached, hydrothermal areas contain boiling water, some of which is acidic or caustic, and weak crusts that can lead to severe burns or death, and areas where air quality is poor You must stay in the designated areas to protect the eco-systems and protect yourself. Only go if you and your travel companions plan to obey the rules.

Mount Washington NH. is so dangerous due to its extreme and rapidly changing weather, caused by its location where cold Atlantic storms meet a "V-shaped" funnel of land that directs them toward the summit. This results in the world's highest recorded wind speed, sudden whiteout blizzards, and freezing temperatures that can occur even in summer. The mountain's deceptively accessible trails and low height lead many to underestimate the risk, despite warning signs and its long history of fatalities.

Death Valley is dangerous primarily due to its extreme heat, which can lead to heatstroke and dehydration. It is the hottest place on Earth, with summer temps often exceeding 54C due to heat being trapped in the valley. It is home to wildlife, including rattlesnakes and mountain lions, mine tailings from historical mining operations may be toxic and should not be touched and if your vehicle breaks down it could prove fatal due to the risk of getting lost in the vast, remote terrain with its limited cell service.

The first three may have surprised you as being more dangerous than you imagined. Less imagination is required for these next three because their names give you a big clue. Which of these seem even more dangerous than their name suggests?

Shark Alley, off the cape coast of South Africa is considered dangerous because it's a narrow channel between Dyer Island and Geyser Rock that has the highest concentration of great white sharks on Earth, primarily due to the large population of Cape fur seals on Geyser Rock which serve as their prey. It is not a place for casual swimming since the risk of an encounter with a great white shark is very high. Cage swimming is a safer option but not safe enough for me.

Snake Island off the coast of Brazil is a place you won't be allowed to visit even if you like snakes. It is just too dangerous. It is home to the highly venomous golden lancehead viper at an extremely high density, with estimates of up to one snake per square meter. The venom of this species is potent enough to cause rapid tissue necrosis, internal bleeding, and other severe effects, making even a single bite a potentially fatal event. Due to these risks, Brazil's government has banned public access to the island.

The "Death Zone" on Mount Everest is the region above 8,000 meters (26,247 feet) where the atmospheric pressure is so low that the human body cannot sustain itself for long without bottled oxygen, leading to rapid deterioration of bodily functions, cognitive decline, and eventual death. The extreme conditions and high cost of recovery mean that many bodies remain on the mountain. Most of the route has a single safety rope, forcing climbers into a slow, single-file line where the pace is set by the slowest climbers. These bottlenecks are dangerous because delays at high altitudes can lead to exhaustion, frostbite, and running out of oxygen, making them a significant risk for climbers.

Sometimes a trip that didn't seem to be risky when you first started planning it, turned out to be that way before you left and had to be abandoned, or on the way there, while you were there, or on the journey home. If you have had a situation like that, will you share it in the comments section?
