Some plants aren’t eaten by bugs—they eat the bugs themselves! Nearly 700 species of these carnivorous plants live throughout the world. Carnivorous plants are plants that derive some or most of their nutrients from trapping and consuming animals or protozoans, typically insects and other arthropods, and occasionally small mammals and birds. In this series we'll explore eight popular carnivorous plants. There is only one question for this series. "Have you ever had one of these plants?" National Geographic Kids is my source for this series.
1. Pitcher plants are carnivorous plants that have modified leaves known as pitfall traps—prey-trapping mechanisms featuring a deep cavity filled with digestive liquid. The traps of what are considered to be "true" pitcher plants are formed by specialized leaves. The plants attract and drown the prey with nectar. Have you ever had one of these plants?

2. The Venus flytrap is a carnivorous plant native to the temperate and subtropical wetlands of North Carolina and South Carolina, on the East Coast of the United States. Although various modern hybrids have been created in cultivation, Dionaea muscipula is the only species of the monotypic genus Dionaea. Have you ever had one of these plants?
