Last week my husband turned into a Disney princess. He found a parakeet sitting on our patio table and decided to bring it inside. What would you have done?

Enjoyed the visit, but left it alone if it was doing fine on its own.

I would post 'Found Parakeet' notices everywhere I could, and if an owner isn't eventually found I would take that as a sign the bird was meant to be my pet. 0.05% 1

A few years ago, I noticed the wild budgies flying around. I put food out on my balcony for them during Summer. Each fall, I would catch them, bring them inside to keep them warm during Winter. Then release them in Spring, putting food out again. 0.05% 1

We posted to look for the owner but for now it's still in our house. Our parrot, Bongo, has been the best host. He tried to open the cage door, asking it "Wanna come out?" and has been checking if it needs anything: "Want a cookie?" Should we trust Bongo to be nice to it?

Yes - It they're getting along now, they are probably fine, at least with supervision.

No! It's a trick, Bongo's going to eat him as a snack once he builds his trust.

We finally settled on calling it Lenny, in honor of Lynyrd Skynyrd and "Free Bird." Originally my husband wanted to call it BOGO - because we have one Bongo and got one free. But I thought it would confuse things to have two names so similar. What would you call him?
Lenny is perfect.

During the day when we're watching them, we've been leaving the cage door open. Lenny has come out to sit on the cage balcony, and a couple times did a short flight around the living room, but has been going back in the cage on his own. He seems to have decided the cage is his home, after just a couple days. Does this surprise you?
Yes - I'm shocked he isn't just flying around in a panic slamming into windows.

No - not if there's food in the cage and he's been lost and hungry for a while.

Hmmm, he might be trying to claim squatter's rights to the cage, if it's a way bigger cage than he had before. Don't be surprised if he starts whistling the theme from The Jeffersons (moving on up ... to a deluxe apartment in the sky).

I'm just surprised that the door is open, and Bongo is giving him space instead of going in and attacking in a territorial rage.
